2 - onlytheparanoidsurvive

Georgia (onlytheparanoidsurvive) is a 21 year old student from Melbourne, Australia studying cartography. I got the film back off her a fortnight ago but was a little lazy getting it developed and scanned but finally here are the photos Georgia captured. Thanks G!

Q.1 Self portrait… This is me. Unfocussed. Boyfran took it but he had his glasses off hahaha. (giant wall map next to me)

Q.2 Something that makes you happy… I love reading so much. This is a small, and varied, collection of the books I own (ps <3 Bear Grylls)

Q.3 Your city… Melbourne, Australia. This is an alley I pass everyday on the way to uni.

Q.4 Most prized possession… My MacBook and external hardrive. I would be lost without it. I use it everyday for uni and play.

Q.5 Bedroom or office… This is the most important part of my bedroom. My bed.

Q6. Your next meal… A very blurred vegan hawaiian pizza. We were in public and I was nervous about pulling a wicked camera, I don’t know how to use, out in public. So I took the shop very quickly. It’s pretty shit.

Q.7 A place you go to relax… This is the swinging chair we have at home on our decking. It is so nice to sit out there when the sun is out. Our garden is lovely to look out on thanks to mother.

Q.8 View from you window… This is the view from my bedroom. I always get the afternoon sun and it heats up my bedroom in winter.

Q.9 Favourite tea or coffee cup… Mushroom cup! It has a lid to keep my tea hot cos I always forget about it.

Q.10 Your daily carry… This is the minimum I carry around with me. I know right, girls.. Anyway, glasses case, glasses, BPA free water bottle from Katmandu, moleskin diary (for random notes cos I have a terrible memory), Kikki K 2010 weekly diary (should have got the day-to-a-page), headphones, chewing gum, lip balm (passionfruit flavour), keys, Oriton coin purse (so retro), Mighty Wallet, and iPhone.

Q.11 Something that stand out to you on your daily travel to work or uni… This is another alley way that leads out from Melbourne Central Station. I walk this way every time I go to uni.

Q.12 Take a photo of the opposite sex… Take 2! This is Alex. The guy who started this project!  We went out for Thai food along with my sister, Meghan. I took a random photo. It turned out cool. (He’s very handsome)

Q.13 Sunset or sunrise… This is the sunrise from my balcony upstairs. I always prefer getting up early in the mornings even if it is a struggle.

Q.14 Your hobby… I love playing video games. I am not very good but I love them. Just a hobby. Nothing serious. Tomb Raider and Bioshock are my two favourite games.

Q15. Favourite pair of shoes… These are vans that I wear nearly everyday. I have had them for nearly three years and they are so very comfy.

Q.16 Your ride… This is my sweet ride. It has a smiley face car freshener, 4 toy dinosaurs on the dash and a “defend pop-punk” sticker

RANDOM SHOT! We had a blood orange at home and I wanted to try it. Looked awesome once I cut it up so I took a photo of it.

1 - @Benjamint

I’ve slightly neglected this project but it’s still a happening thing.

First up is @benjamint or straighturville as he’s known around these parts. Ben is a 21 year old science/finance geek from Melbourne. It was a struggle to find someone to go first but Ben kindly put his hand up. I’m really impressed with what Ben was able to come up with given he was first up. Thanks Benjamina.

1 - Self Portrait - Because the world needs to see more of my pointy collarbones.

Ben actually included two self portraits and the second was too cool not to share.

2. Something that makes you happy -  Waking up to blue skies and hot air balloons on a perfect morning.

3. Your city -   Melbourne, just outside the city. Lovely streets.

4. Your most prized possession - My baby (aka Cole Clark acoustic).

5. Bedroom or office? Bedroom (one corner of it!)

6. Your next meal - I kept forgetting to take pictures of everything nice looking that I cooked, so this is an ugly (but delicious) Punjabi chole thing that I made.

7. A place you go to relax - Edinburgh Gardens. A place you go to relax.

8. View from your window - Zis ees ze view from just outside my bedroom. Virtually no view from the window itself though! 9. Favourite tea or coffee cup? Designed this bad boy myself.

10. Your daily carry (lay down all your items on a table from your handbag or bag and photo them)

11. Something that stands out to you on your daily travel to work or uni - This is in the alley just behind our house, on the way to the tram stop. I quite like it.

13. Sunset or sunrise

16. Your ride

This is still happening.
Things got a little silly moving to a new city, living out of home for the first time and starting my real job.. But we got there.
First up (starting tomorrow) is illmakeanearthquake.
Who is keen to go second?

Travelling Camera

Hello hello.

I have a little project on the go. It all started a few weeks back when I posted about an idea to send a film camera to the people of Tumblr. I actually thought no one would be interested but instead I was a little overwhelmed and excited about how many people put their hand up.

Things are coming along nicely and I’m probably a fortnight (more or less) away from actually sending the camera to people. First I need to finish the list and fine tune another few bits. The plan is to send the camera with a list of 15 things to photo for around a fortnight at a time without being too rushed. I must admit, the camera isn’t stupidly simple to use. Well. It’s not hard but at the same time it’s not like using a disposable camera. You have to manually focus the lens and make sure the camera is metered correctly. It’s actually really easy but just means you have to slow down  before pressing the trigger for a couple of seconds. I think the extra bit of effort is worth it as you can see in these photos others have taken with the camera.

So. Who is keen to go first? Ask me.

The camera.

About

The Travelling Camera is a project by Alex Wise. An Olympus OM-2N with a list of 15 things to photograph is posted to the people of Tumblr for a fortnight. You take some photos, post the camera back and they are later posted here as part of an ongoing series.

The only thing I ask is for you to look after the camera by not stealing it, pay for postage to return the camera and most importantly have fun. While I’ll look after getting the film developed and scanned.

HOW DO I USE THE CAMERA?!

Deep breaths.

The Olympus OM-2N is a single lens reflex camera that was released much before we were born in 1975. I choose this camera for the project as it is a manual based camera which allows you to change the exposure, aperture and focus. Wait. That sounds really advanced. Don’t fear. The camera appealed because it can be set on semi automatic where if you aim to take the photo and it will calculate the exposure time for you. This means you just need to aim, focus it correctly, press the shutter button and bam. I’m hoping because you can play with the focus, you might take photos of people with them in focus and the background blurred. Things you can’t do with a shitty disposable.

Because of the film in the camera, it’s not fantastic at night time and will probably result in blurred images. I find the best time to take photos is right before sunset when the ‘golden hour’ light is in force. But it’s completely up to you.

Time for some inspiration to show you what this baby is capable of.
